Krista Kohl, Ph.D.

Bio

Krista Kohl, Ph.D., is a pediatric psychologist specializing in the treatment of children and adolescents with chronic pain and co-occurring mental health symptoms. Dr. Kohl earned her Ph.D. from Loyola University Chicago, completed her internship at Children’s Hospital of Orange County, and completed postdoctoral training at Children’s Hospital Los Angeles. She has served on the Pain Consultation Service at Children’s Hospital Colorado and worked as part of the interdisciplinary pediatric pain team at the University of Iowa Stead Family Children’s Hospital.

Dr. Kohl joined the outpatient Chronic Pain Program within the Department of Rehabilitation Medicine at Rady Children’s Hospital in September 2022. She provides evidence-based psychotherapeutic interventions including cognitive-behavioral therapy, relaxation training, acceptance and commitment therapy, and mindfulness-based approaches.

Dr. Kohl meets individually with patients as well as with parents and caregivers to teach and practice skills. Her treatment approach focuses on improving coping with pain and stress and enhancing daily functioning.
