Rady Children’s Announces John Vossler, MD, MS, MBA, as Rady Children’s Congenital Heart Surgeon and Assistant Clinical Professor of Surgery at UC San Diego

SAN DIEGO, Calif. — August 21, 2024Rady Children’s Hospital-San Diego, one of the nation’s top 10 pediatric healthcare systems, and the University of California San Diego are pleased to announce the arrival of John Vossler, MD, MS, MBA, as a congenital heart surgeon at Rady Children’s and Assistant Clinical Professor of Surgery at UC San Diego School of Medicine.

Dr. Vossler joins Rady Children’s following his time spent as a congenital heart surgeon at C.S. Mott Children’s Hospital, including serving as a Clinical Instructor at the University of Michigan Medical School. At Rady Children’s, Dr. Vossler will lead surgeries as part of the nationally-ranked Heart Institute while training the next generation of doctors at the UC San Diego School of Medicine. A highly accomplished surgeon with certifications in Robotic Surgery and as an Epic Certified Physician Builder, Dr. Vossler will assist the Heart Institute as it continues to devise and deploy state-of-the-art methods for combatting congenital heart disease.

Operating within the Heart Institute, the Rady Children’s Division of Cardiothoracic Surgery performs surgeries for the treatment of congenital heart defects. The Division’s highly skilled pediatric cardiothoracic surgeons use advanced surgical strategies and techniques– including hybrid procedures– to achieve optimal outcomes and to make surgeries as safe as possible. Operating as one of the highest-volume programs in the country, the Division of Cardiothoracic Surgery and Heart Institute boasts outcomes that are among the best in the nation.

Dr. Vossler attended medical school at Wake Forest University before completing his general surgery residency at the University of Hawaii where he served as administrative chief and was awarded the Outstanding Resident Award. Dr. Vossler then completed a cardiothoracic surgery fellowship at the University of Utah and a pediatric cardiothoracic surgery fellowship at the University of Michigan. In addition, Dr. Vossler holds an MBA from the Eastern Carolina University School of Business and a master’s degree in molecular medicine and translational science.
