Dr. Peter Chiraseveenuprapund (Chira) is a board-certified pediatric rheumatologist at Rady Children's Hospital-San Diego. He is also a clinical associate professor of clinical pediatrics at UC San Diego School of Medicine.
Dr. Chira earned his medical degree at Albert Einstein College of Medicine of Yeshiva University in Bronx, N.Y. He completed his pediatric internship at Children's National Medical Center in Washington, D.C., and pediatric residency at Children's Hospital Oakland in Oakland, Calif. He completed a pediatric rheumatology fellowship at Stanford University School of Medicine at Lucile Packard Children's Hospital, where he also earned a Master's of Science in Health Services Research. He was on the faculty at Stanford from 2004-2011 and at Indiana University School of Medicine from 2011-2014, where he was also the pediatric rheumatology fellowship program director.
Dr. Chira is dedicated to treating all children, adolescents and young adults with rheumatic diseases such as juvenile idiopathic arthritis, systemic lupus erythematosus, systemic vasculitis, systemic and localized scleroderma and juvenile dermatomyositis. He conducts clinical research to improve the lives of children and youth with rheumatic disease and is actively involved as an investigator for clinical trials. His primary research focus has been on improving the transition process for children and adolescents from pediatric to adult healthcare systems. He is dedicated in teaching the next generation of medical students, residents and fellows.
Dr. Chira is a member of the American College of Rheumatology and Childhood Arthritis and Rheumatology Research Alliance. He is actively involved with the Arthritis Foundation on the local, regional and national level.
Outside of work, Dr. Chira enjoys traveling, heading to the beach with his dog and eating good food.
