About Outpatient Psychiatry


Rady Children’s Hospital Outpatient Psychiatry Department provides behavioral health services for children and young adults up to age 21. Services are provided to children and their families with social, emotional, and behavioral problems in a full-service, interdisciplinary behavioral health clinic.

Rady Children’s Outpatient Psychiatry provides services at three clinics, in Kearny Mesa, Escondido, and Oceanside. The Department engages in outreach to over 25 schools in nine districts throughout San Diego County and provides some school-based services.

Services

Our Outpatient Psychiatry team offers support for a wide range of concerns, including:

  • Depressive disorders
  • Behavioral concerns
  • Anxiety disorders
  • Psychoses
  • Attention deficit disorders
  • Eating disorders
  • Chemical dependency
  • School phobia
  • Co-occurring disorders

Services may include a complete diagnostic assessment and one or more of the following:

  • Individual psychotherapy
  • Family therapy
  • Group therapy
  • Psychological testing and interventions
  • Medication evaluation and treatment (typically combined with psychotherapy)
  • Referrals to adjunct services such as Pediatrics, Neurology, and educational supports
  • Case management
  • Substance abuse treatment sessions

Most treatment is time-limited and reviewed regularly by your child’s clinical team.

Our Team

Our clinical staff includes psychiatrists, psychologists, clinical social workers, marriage and family therapists, case managers, and substance abuse counselors. Some of the professionals on our team are faculty members in the Department of Psychiatry at UC San Diego and are renowned specialists in their fields. We are affiliated with several academic institutions in our community such as UC San Diego, San Diego State University, and University of San Diego; the Department provides training for child psychiatry fellows, psychology interns, social work interns, and marriage and family therapist trainees.
