Inpatient Chronic Pain Program
Rady Children’s Hospital-San Diego has partnered with Children’s Specialized Hospital in New Jersey to open the first inpatient children’s chronic pain program in Southern California.
The partnership expands Children’s Specialized Hospital’s East Coast-based Chronic Pain Management Program to pediatric and adolescent patients in San Diego, Southern California and the southwestern United States through the all-new Children’s Specialized Hospital Chronic Pain Management Program at Rady Children’s Hospital-San Diego.
The program emphasizes pain management through a whole-person, multidisciplinary approach. It will align and amplify each institution’s expertise while better serving the needs of area children and adolescents.
Some pain medications can lead to dependency and many times, are not needed to control pain. Our program aims to provide coping strategies and healthier ways to respond to pain. Children and teens will work closely with team members to develop their own strategies so they can return to school, sports and their social life.
Our services include:
- Aquatic therapy
- Therapeutic yoga
- Physical therapy
- Occupational therapy
- Recreation therapy
- Healing Arts – Music, Art and Storytelling
- Healing Touch
Since its inception, Children’s Specialized Hospital has been at the forefront of chronic pain management, reporting significant, positive outcomes in pain reduction and quality of life improvement. The Rady Children’s partnership is an important milestone in expanding its services to treat more patients.
Children’s Specialized Hospital is part of RWJBarnabas Health and a leading pediatric provider for children facing healthcare challenges, including chronic pain and illness. The program here in San Diego at Rady Children’s Hospital will be led by program director Anke Reineke, Ph.D.
