Volunteers Make the Hospital Go 'Round

Volunteers are the heart of Rady Children’s Hospital San Diego.

They support patients, families and medical staff, and play a vital role in the Hospital’s daily operations. The Hospital’s volunteers have spent countless hours making a difference across a range of departments and helping create a more comforting and compassionate experience for all. From greeting visitors at the front desk and manning the playroom to prepping materials for therapy sessions and cuddling the tiniest patient in the neonatal intensive care unit, volunteers embody what it means to pay it forward. They are the unsung heroes of Rady Children’s Health. Across every campus and satellite location, they lend their time and talents, supporting staff, helping with essential tasks and bringing joy to patients and families.

And who says all volunteers have to be human? Rady Children’s canine volunteers bring “pawsitivity” to patients, families and staff. Young patients can pet, hug and spend time with the Hospital’s furry four-legged volunteers. These dedicated doggos reduce stress, provide comfort and help kids heal one tail wag at a time.

There are lots of ways to volunteer, and Rady Children’s is currently taking applications. Applicants must be at least 18 years of age, able to commit to a minimum of 100 hours of service over 12 consecutive months and be available for a 3-hour shift on the same day and time each week.
