Penny Dokmo Receives Outstanding Development/Fundraising Volunteer Award

(San Diego, CA) – Longtime civic leader Penny Dokmo was awarded the Outstanding Development/Fundraising Volunteer award at the 39th Annual Association of Fundraising Professionals San Diego chapter award luncheon held in honor of National Philanthropy Day.

“I am honored to be given this award for the work I do with Rady Children’s and other local non-profits,” said Penny Dokmo. “Rady Children’s has always held a special place in my heart and the time I have spent helping to support the Hospital has been very meaningful to me.”

David Gillig, Sr. Vice President and Executive Director of Rady Children’s Foundation, said Dokmo has been an inspiration. “Few organizations are so fortunate to find such a committed, compassionate volunteer leader,” Gillig said.

Dokmo’s volunteering began more than 30 years ago as a member of Junior League. Since then Dokmo has been an outstanding volunteer in the community. Dokmo has served as Chair, Rady Children’s Hospital Foundation Board of Trustees; Chair, Rady Children’s Hospital Board of Trustees, President, Rady Children’s Hospital Auxiliary; and SuperBall Chair (1998 Charity Ball). Dokmo has also served as President, North County Philanthropy Council; San Diego Chamber Orchestra and Country Friends.

Dokmo has been a supporting member of the Rady Children’s Auxiliary Rancho Bernardo Unit since 1981 where she has helped organize many fundraising events. In 1999, she launched the unit’s first Poinsettia Fundraiser, which continues to raise more than $25,000 annually.

Dokmo served as Chair of the Hospital Foundation Board of Trustees in 2004-2005. During her leadership, the Hospital’s 5-year $140 million capital campaign was successfully concluded and the goal amount exceeded.
