Rady Children’s Ranked Among The Best Places To Volunteer in San Diego

San Diego, CA- San Diego Union-Tribune readers nominated Rady Children’s Hospital as one of the best places to volunteer in San Diego County. Rady Children’s was ranked number 2 among the top 7 places in the county to volunteer according to the Union-Tribune’s “San Diego’s Best 2011”.

“We have volunteers that have been with us for more than 30 years and have given back thousands of hours of service to the Hospital, then we have young volunteers that are just starting out who want to explore the pediatric health care profession,” said Volunteer Services Manager, Sylvie Sneep. “There are programs like our activity rooms that we could not operate without the help of our dedicated volunteers.”

Rady Children’s volunteer program has more than 450 dedicated volunteers, some as young as 14 years old and reaching the age of 94. Their time spent at the Hospital amounts to about 40,600 hours of service every year. The volunteers serve in a number of roles throughout the Hospital including assisting nurses with infant care, operating the activity rooms, working as patient companions, translators, surgery ambassadors, storytellers and handlers with the canine care therapy program.
