Lauren Hennein, MD is a pediatric ophthalmologist at Rady Children’s Hospital and an Assistant Professor in the Viterbi Family Department of Ophthalmology at the University of California San Diego.
Dr. Hennein specializes in comprehensive pediatric ophthalmology including strabismus (eye movement disorders), pediatric cataracts, eye trauma, and nasolacrimal (tearing) problems. She also specializes in adult strabismus.
Dr. Hennein is a member of the Phi Beta Kappa Honor Society and Alpha Omega Alpha Honor Medical Society. She earned her medical degree with distinction at UCSF. Dr. Hennein has received numerous honors/awards, including Rady Children’s Hospital Best Quality Improvement Leaders Project of 2024, the prestigious Heed Fellowship, the UCSF Garcia Asbury Award for Best Clinical Research, and the UCSF Muriel Steele Society Influential Women in Surgery Honor Roll. Dr. Hennein is passionate about serving the underserved and founded the UCSF Ophthalmology Homeless Shelter Clinic.
Dr. Hennein is the Principal Investigator for the Rady/UC San Diego Pediatric Eye Disease Investigator Group (PEDIG) site and the Director for Quality Improvement in the Rady Ophthalmology division.
