After earning her medical degree in Colombia in 2007, she completed training in pediatrics at St. Joseph Children's Hospital in New Jersey, followed by a pediatric infectious diseases fellowship at Mattel Children's Hospital at UCLA. During her fellowship, she developed an interest in congenital infections and transplant infectious diseases.

Dr. Tovar Padua is highly experienced in the management of patients with transplant-related infectious disease issues, HIV and perinatal infections. She also specializes in treating complex neonatal and pediatric intensive care patients.

She has also assisted medical mission groups in the underserved areas of her home country, and these experiences have given purpose to her life.
