Dr. Sujana Gunta is a pediatric nephrologist at Rady Children's Hospital-San Diego.
After earning her medical degree from TN Medical College in Mumbai, Dr. Gunta obtained a master's degree in epidemiology at the University of Iowa College of Public Health. She then continued her clinical medical education with a residency in pediatrics. She decided to pursue nephrology after discovering her passion for the field during her residency. She joined the team of talented nephrologists at Rady Children's Hospital in 2014 after completing a fellowship in pediatric nephrology at UC San Diego and Rady Children's Hospital.
Under the mentorship of Dr. Mak, Dr. Gunta won several prestigious awards during her fellowship, including the 2012 ASPN trainee research award for Basic Science in Pediatric Nephrology and the 2013 David G. Nathan SPR Fellow research award for basic science. Though she excelled in scientific research, her love of interacting with patients on a daily basis drew her back to clinical medicine.
She currently practices outpatient pediatric nephrology part-time at Rady Children's Hospital and practices general pediatrics part-time at a community clinic in North County, continuing to explore her passion for both fields of medicine. Dr. Gunta believes that healing begins with building a successful relationship between the physician and the patient and strives to create these relationships on top of providing the highest standard of clinical care.
Dr. Gunta's little boy (with another on the way!) and husband are her pillars of support and her source of happiness and strength.
