A to Z: Fracture, Fibula

A fractured fibula is a break to the smaller of the two bones in the lower leg.

More to Know

A fibula fracture can occur anywhere along the bone, from just below the knee to where it connects to the ankle joint. A fibula fracture usually is the result of a strong blow to the side of the leg, but some can be caused by twisting an ankle.

Keep in Mind

Casts are used to help some broken bones heal properly. Fibula fractures usually heal completely in 4–6 weeks.
