Outpatient Care

Cardiac outpatient services are provided at Rady Children’s Hospital-San Diego and our satellite locations.

There are more than 20,500 patient visits to our outpatient clinics each year. Infants, children, teenagers and young adults are seen for a variety of issues; the most common issues for new referrals are heart murmurs, chest pain and fainting. Children with both congenital and acquired heart disease are closely followed in these clinics.

In addition to our general cardiology clinics, we have clinics for heart failure and transplant patients, directed by Rakesh Singh, M.D., M.S,   a weekly clinic for patients with Kawasaki disease, directed by Jane Burns, M.D., a Home Monitoring Program, directed by Jessica Haley, M.D., and a Pulmonary Hypertension Program. Each of our cardiologists who specialize in particular areas, such as catheterization procedures and heart rhythm disorders/pacemakers, has weekly clinics as well.

At a typical clinic visit for first-time patients, families should expect to stay for one to two hours. This includes time for diagnostic tests such as chest X-rays and electrocardiograms, which are routine for first-time patients, as well as a nursing assessment and the appointment with the physician.
