Community Health Needs Assessment

Rady Children’s conducts a Community Health Needs Assessment (CHNA) to identify the health and social needs of children and youth in our region. This assessment is mandated by California Senate Bill 697, the Patient Protection and Affordable Care Act, and IRS section 503 (r)(3), which requires nonprofit hospitals to perform a CHNA and develop an implementation strategy every three years. The CHNA includes both primary data collection and secondary data analysis and is an important tool for Rady Children’s to create a Community Benefit Implementation Strategy (CBIS) for our service area, which includes San Diego, Imperial and Southern Riverside Counties.

To develop a comprehensive CHNA focused on the needs of children and youth, Rady Children’s collaborates with the Hospital Association of San Diego and Imperial Counties and the hospitals in our region to engage and gather feedback from the community. Rady Children’s builds upon input collected through this process and incorporates additional data sources to identify and understand children’s and youth’s needs in our region.

Community Benefit Implementation Strategy

Through our CHNA community engagement, Rady Children’s identified the health and social needs of children and youth in our area. We then prioritized these needs using a structured process with defined criteria. This approach enabled us to develop Rady Children’s Community Benefit Implementation Strategy (CBIS).

We value your input on the Community Health Needs Assessment and Implementation Strategy. Please send your questions and comments to advocacy@rchsd.org
