Meet Ian, the youngest of three brothers diagnosed with a rare genetic condition called ataxia telangiectasia (AT), which affects the nervous & immune systems, balance, & coordination. Ian was also the second of the three boys to be diagnosed with leukemia at a young age. For years, he bravely underwent treatment at Rady Children’s Peckham Center for Cancer & Blood Disorders, sometimes alongside his older brother, Graham.
At a follow-up appointment, Ian’s care team identified signs of liver disease that were causing severe blood loss. They acted quickly, performing a blood transfusion & a complex renal procedure to reroute affected vessels & arteries to his kidney. Thanks to their expertise & Ian’s incredible determination, he made an amazing recovery.
