About the Outpatient Procedure Center (OPC)
The Outpatient Procedure Center (OPC) is where many of our patients come for same-day procedures and imaging. Services performed at the OPC include:
- Dental procedures
- Gastroenterology
- Dermatology/laser procedures
- Computed tomography (CT) scans
- Magnetic resonance imaging (MRI)
- Cardiac catheterization (cardiac cath) procedures
Directions to Outpatient Procedure Center (OPC)
Please note: Due to ongoing construction, directions to the OPC have recently changed. To reach the Outpatient Procedure Center:
- Enter the Acute Care Pavilion (ACP) at 3020 Children’s Way and register at the front desk.
- Take the elevator to the 3rd floor.
- Walk past the garden and cross the bridge to the OPC.
- Parking is available in the main parking structure across from the ACP.
What to Expect During Your Visit
Knowing what happens after you arrive can help you and your child feel more comfortable. Here’s what a typical visit to the OPC looks like:
Checking in
- A parent or guardian will complete the paperwork for your child’s procedure and provide a cell phone number where our team can reach you.
- Your child will be given an identification bracelet to wear.
- You’ll be asked to wait in the waiting room. Your parent or guardian will be notified by cell phone when it’s time to be called back to the procedure area.
Getting ready for the procedure
- A patient care assistant (PCA) will check your child’s vital signs — measuring height and weight, taking their temperature with a forehead thermometer, checking oxygen levels with a small sticker sensor placed on the finger, and taking their blood pressure.
- A pre-op nurse will bring your child to a room, ask questions to get to know them, and review the plan for the day with your child and family.
- Depending on the type of procedure, your child’s surgical team will update your family on the next steps.
