Nurses Share Top 3 Reasons to Join Team Rady

Have you ever wondered what it would be like to be a nurse at Rady Children’s Hospital-San Diego? We spoke with three nurses who transitioned from treating adults to kids, why they enjoy working at Rady Children’s…and why nurses should work here! If you are a nurse looking for a new adventure, check out the top three reasons why you should join our nursing team:

#1 – Working with kids is awesome

“If you told me I was going to be working in pediatrics right now a couple of years ago, I probably would’ve laughed because it was far the farthest thing I thought I wanted to do. I started working with adults during the COVID-19 pandemic. It was stressful and it didn’t feel right. I just never felt like I was in the right place. However, from day one, working at Rady Children’s has been the best experience of my life. It was everything I wanted, and it felt right to be here. I get to be a part of watching kids get better and improve. I feel thankful to be here every single day.” Robbie Dodson, RN, a nurse in the surgical inpatient unit at Rady Children’s

“What surprised me about working in pediatrics was how much I enjoyed the patients. When they walk out and they’re better than when they came in, it gives me a little deeper feeling of all right, cool. I did something of value today.” Frank Sturniolo, RN, a nurse in the Emergency Department at Rady Children’s

#2Have fun and learn a lot

“Learning from some of the nurses on my unit who have been here for 10, 15, 20 years is amazing. The knowledge that they have is incredible. I’ve felt welcomed from my very first day. Any time I have a question or concern, I can get it answered quickly. It’s a great opportunity; it’s fun to work here. Rady Children’s is a great place to work.” Valentine Aljabi, RN, a nurse on the cardiothoracic Intensive Care Unit (ICU) at Rady Children’s

#3 – Work as a team and feel supported

“When it comes to balancing your life and being satisfied with what you do, I feel like I’m in the right place. I feel like I have people who support me. I feel like the hospital’s always offering things to push you forward just a little bit more. That’s a great place to position yourself.” Frank

“I am absolutely proud to be a part of the Team Rady family.” Robbie
