Rady Children’s Hospital-San Diego Appoints New Senior Vice President and Chief Financial Officer

James Uli will bring more than two decades of health care finance experience to his role

(SAN DIEGO — Feb. 24, 2020) — After a comprehensive national search, Rady Children’s Hospital-San Diego has named James Uli as its new senior vice president and chief financial officer. Uli will work directly with Rady Children’s president and chief executive officer, Patrick A. Frias, MD, and oversee the Hospital’s financial operations, including accounting, budgeting and managing revenue cycle.

Currently the health system CFO at Keck Medicine of USC, Uli has held health care finance positions for nearly 20 years, including serving as CFO at Providence Saint John’s Health Center and John Wayne Cancer Institute and division chief financial officer at Loma Linda University Medical Center-Murrieta. He completed his undergraduate education at University of California, Riverside and master of health care administration degree at USC.

Uli was selected from a broad pool of national candidates through a search committee comprising Rady Children’s board members and key organizational stakeholders. Numerous health system executives, board members, physicians, clinical leaders and staff members were involved in the interview process, allowing for full-spectrum participation across the health system.

“I am thrilled to bring James onto the Rady Children’s executive team,” said Dr. Frias. “He has a strong and proven history of effective leadership and strategic thinking in the health care industry that will serve our organization, staff and patients well. In addition, his experience working in the Southern California market, not to mention living there with a family of his own, will be an asset as we continue to expand our health system and serve the needs of more families in San Diego, Riverside and Imperial Counties.”

“Rady Children’s is in an exciting period of growth and innovation,” Uli stated. “We have significant opportunities to reach more children across more service areas and communities than ever before, and I look forward to planning and supporting the success of these endeavors.”

Uli will begin his role at the end of February, assuming the responsibilities of current SVP and CFO Kathleen Cain, who will be retiring after four years of service to the health system, and a storied career spanning decades in the health care finance field.
