Rady Children’s Patients to Participate in Spring Training Experience with San Diego Padres

March 8, 2019 – San Diego, CA – Twelve patients undergoing cancer treatment at Rady Children’s Hospital-San Diego will enjoy VIP treatment this weekend at the San Diego Padres’ spring training facility in Peoria, Arizona. This first-year program between Rady Children’s and the Padres is made possible through philanthropic support.

The all-access trip is designed to foster independence and provides many patients their first trip away from home. Activities include on-field access prior to Saturday’s Padres vs. Reds game, lots of downtime to connect with one another and opportunities to interact with Padres players, including first baseman Eric Hosmer. On Friday, March 8 at 9 a.m., before leaving San Diego, all patients will be “signed” to the team by Padres President of Business Operations, Erik Greupner. Greupner will be joined by Rady Children’s Hospital Foundation Senior Vice President and Executive Director Steve Jennings and Nick, a patient representative and avid athlete who will address attendees and media.

Caregivers will travel with patients to provide support as needed.
