Two Leaders Join Rady Children’s Hospital-San Diego Executive Team

Robin H. Steinhorn, MD, and Jill Strickland bring decades of proven expertise in health care to further propel the Hospital’s growth and innovation

(SAN DIEGO  Aug. 12, 2020) — Following an in-depth national search, Rady Children’s Hospital-San Diego has selected two new additions to its executive team. Robin H. Steinhorn, MD, has joined as president of Children’s Specialists of San Diego, executive director of Rady Children’s Specialists of San Diego and senior vice president of Rady Children’s, and Ms. Jill Strickland has joined as senior vice president and chief administrative officer. Dr. Steinhorn’s appointment also extends to University of California San Diego School of Medicine, where she now serves as vice dean of Children’s Clinical Services and a professor for the Department of Pediatrics.

In her most recent role, Dr. Steinhorn was senior vice president of Children’s National’s Center for Hospital-Based Specialties and a professor of pediatrics at George Washington School of Medicine. At Children’s National, some of Dr. Steinhorn’s key achievements included growing multiple clinical areas, recruiting four internationally renowned leaders to oversee clinical divisions, and expanding the hospital’s research footprint. With a keen emphasis on quality and safety, she also enacted innovative measures that further supported patient and staff well-being, as well as advanced the hospital’s position in major national rankings beyond already-strong numbers. Before her tenure at Children’s National, she served in a leadership capacity at institutions such as Lurie Children’s Hospital, UC Davis Children’s Hospital and UC Davis School of Medicine.

Ms. Strickland was senior vice president, physician practice administration at Children’s Healthcare of Atlanta for the past 11 years, where her accomplishments included leading the acquisition of six private medical groups, expanding care facilities and staffing to address in-demand community care needs, and overseeing the health system’s telemedicine offerings while adopting Georgia’s first Extensions for Community Healthcare Outcomes program. Prior to that, she held leadership positions at entities including Kaiser Foundation Health Plan of Georgia/Kaiser Permanente; Columbia/HCA healthcare Corporation/The Health Advantage Network; Paladin Healthcare, Inc.; and SouthCare Medical Alliance.

“Both Dr. Steinhorn and Ms. Strickland have exceptional track records of leading and growing large-scale teams; implementing creative and strategic initiatives to benefit patients, clinicians and staff; and, most important, contributing to an improved quality of life for children and families in their communities through their efforts,” said Patrick A. Frias, MD, president and CEO of Rady Children’s. “I have no doubt they will be exceptional stewards of our health system’s mission and commitment to patients, and assets in innovation and development as we forge into the future.”

Dr. Steinhorn began her role in May 2020, assuming the responsibilities of Herbert C. Kimmons, MD, MMM, who recently retired after decades with the Hospital. Strickland started this month and will succeed current executive vice president and CAO Margareta E. Norton as she retires after 24 years of dedicated leadership at Rady Children’s.
