Cardiac Family Advisory Council (CFAC)

Our mission is to integrate the patient and family perspective into the vital work of Rady Children’s Heart Institute. Through advocacy and collaboration, we will advance the knowledge of, and excellent care for, people with congenital or acquired heart disease.

What is the CFAC?

The Cardiac Family Advisory Council (CFAC) is a group of committed volunteers that partner with the Rady Children’s Hospital’s Heart Institute leaders to make meaningful change to benefit patients, clinicians and caregivers. The CFAC represents the family voice.

Who is involved?

The CFAC is comprised of voting family members, partners-in-care, current and former patients, Hospital leaders and patient-care staff.

CFAC Initiatives:

  • Promoting safety and infection control
  • Supporting the mental well-being of caregivers
  • Helping the transition from adolescent to adult
  • Providing feedback on outreach and family education materials
  • Overall support for our pediatric heart community

Disinfectant wipes are now available next to the access phone outside the CVICU doors.

An “Ask me if I’ve washed my hands” initiative by the nursing staff  has been launched to help families feel more comfortable speaking up if they believe sanitary efforts may be in question.
