Preparing for Your Visit

Once your visit is scheduled, there are some key steps for you to take to ensure you make the most of your time with your health care team. You will receive notifications from your clinic via text or email reminding you about your appointment and providing important information about your visit.

See below on how to prepare for your upcoming visit.

In-person Visits

General tips for your appointment:

  • Prepare a list of your questions about your child’s health to share with your provider during the visit.
  • Prepare a list of your child’s current medications.
  • If requested by your clinical team, gather up any test results that were completed in a non-Rady Children’s facility, such as radiology studies or lab results, to bring with you.
  • Please be on time for your visit. If you arrive more than 20 minutes after your scheduled arrival time, your visit may be rescheduled.
  • Though having a MyChart account is not required for in-person visits, it is strongly recommended that you sign up for one. With an active MyChart account you will be able to complete our E-Check in process (EZ Arrival) and communicate directly with your care team. If you don’t have MyChart yet, we’ll enroll you doing your visit; just let your clinic team know you’re interested.

If you have a MyChart account for your child, before your appointment please do the following:

Complete EZ Arrival in MyChart

EZ arrival is available to you in MyChart 48 hours before your appointment. EZ Arrival allows you to complete most of your check-in ahead of time so that you spend less time waiting and more time talking with your doctor. With EZ Arrival you can:

  • Review and update your child’s personal information, current medications, allergies, and health issues
  • Verify or update your insurance
  • Sign pre-visit consents
  • Fill out patient questionnaires assigned by your clinical team
  • Pay your co-pay, if one is due

After Your In-person Visit

You will receive an After Visit Summary (AVS) with a summary of what happened during your visit, a list of your current medications, and any next steps when you are discharged from the clinic. If you have a MyChart account, the AVS will also be available to you in MyChart. The AVS can be found in the “Visits” > “Past Visits” section of your child’s MyChart account.

Telemedicine (Video Visits)

A MyChart account is required for telemedicine visits. Please ensure you have activated your MyChart account prior to the day of your appointment. Write down your MyChart username and password and keep it in a safe place. If you need assistance with your MyChart account, get help by calling the Rady Children’s Service Desk at 877-902-4278.

General tips for your appointment:

  • Prepare a list of your questions about your child’s health to share with your provider during the visit.
  • Prepare a list of your child’s current medications – you will be entering this information into EZ Arrival.
  • If requested by your clinical team, gather up any test results that were completed in a non-Rady Children’s facility, such as radiology studies or lab results to discuss with your provider during your video visit.
  • If requested by your clinical team, before your visit obtain and write down any vital signs, such as height, weight, temperature, or heart rate.
  • If requested by your clinical team, send pictures to the clinic via a MyChart message. Click here for instructions on how to upload photos to MyChart.

To ensure our patients are prepared for their first telemedicine visit, you may receive a phone call from clinic staff several days before your visit to review instructions and answer any questions you may have. If you have had video visits with us before and do not need assistance, you can let the person scheduling your appointment know that a call is not needed.
