We understand that having a child transferred can be stressful. Our team is committed to providing safe, compassionate care and keeping families informed throughout the transport process. At this time, the Transfer Center primarily works with healthcare providers and referring facilities to coordinate patient transfers. Families with questions about an existing transfer can speak with their care team or call the main hospital line for guidance.
If your child’s transfer request has been accepted by a Rady Children’s Hospital San Diego physician, the transfer process will begin. If your child meets clinical criteria, our Children’s Hospital Emergency Transport (CHET) Team will be mobilized as quickly as possible. The CHET team is made up of experienced pediatric critical care nurses and respiratory therapists who are specially trained to care for infants and children during transport.
Our clinicians work in and train within Rady Children’s pediatric intensive care units, bringing advanced, ICU-level care directly to your child from the moment they arrive. The care team will provide any updates as they become available and help answer questions along the way.
